As part of an urban redevelopment scheme of Salford Central, Austin-Smith : Lord were appointed architects to undertake a general improvement of Salford Central Station

The aim was to improve the functionality and attractiveness of the Station to create a pleasant central hub and generate more users and thus more traffic.

A Lumaglass™ screen has been installed along the main concourse leading to departure/arrivals screens, ticket office and platforms.
The screen is made of toughened Standard Cast glass, installed in two single glazed rows put aside and inserted in aluminium frames.
On the internal side of the wall, the glass panels were shaped to follow the staircase and a handrail has been fixed on the edges of the intermediate aluminium frames.

The glass is sandblasted to the inside face of both layers and reach a size of 3 metres at the highest point.

The screen genuinely highlights the area over the day and offers a reassuring glow at night.
