Electroluminescent(EL) technology centres around phosphor crystals laid down on a thin aluminium substrate and sandwiched between a clear top electrode. The lamps are manufactured in widths of 76cm and length of 365M creating the world's longest lamp. The master roll is split to the desired width and encapsulated in a protective laminate that creates a flexible 0.7 mm thick lamp.
At this stage it can come in two basic colours: White or Green/Blue. We overlay transparent coloured PVC film to achieve our colour range. After processing to the required length and width, they are fixed on the inside flange of the U-profile glass.
With sandblasting the internal face, this achieves an even wash
of light along what ever length of glass that is used.
Electroluminescence is a light to be seen and not to see by,
therefore, it is best seen in lower ambient lighting. Due to
it's nature there is no "polluting" glare but can be seen from a
great distance.
Electroluminescent lights must be illuminated with alternating
current using the Lumaglass™ EL Power Supplies. These have been
specifically developed to power our EL lights at the most efficient
ratings, and MUST be used for proper operation of the
product.
At the nominal recommended operating parameters for high brightness
applications, the light is driven by 280 VAC at 650 Hz. The current
draw at this brightness is 0.0003 Amps per 2.54 cm2 of illuminated
surface.
